Letters to my daughters 3 | Morning Pancakes | By Evy Photography

Dear Molly and Grace

Today you both gave me a reminder for how great life is and how valuable time with the two of you are. Last night I was burning the midnight oil and doing some late night editing and due to a restless nights sleep I was very quiet. You both sneaked into the living room the time ten to ten popped into my head and I woke up realising it was actually ten to ten. I could not believe we were still sleeping and you two were happily sitting eating fruit watching TV.

There is nothing you love more on a weekend then our pancake breakfast/lunch so I give you the promise that we are going to make pancakes as soon a

s they are dressed.

A promise of pancakes meant that Grace rushed up the stairs to get herself ready. Grace then helped Molly get ready, picked out her outfit and I could not stop smiling when I heard them together.

“Molly you better get ready quick before the snap snap crocodile comes to get you (snapping her hands up and down” Molly can’t stop giggling “and then I hear Grace proceed…”quick get your clothes on because the snap snap crocodile don’t like eating children who has clothes on” I look in on them and Molly is standing with her shorts on and just the t-shirt left to put on.

As I was listening to the two of you getting so excited about our pancakes I continued to give the kitchen a general tidy. When cooking food it is best to do so with a clean worktop so whenever you make something in the kitchen, clean up the work area before starting to prepare the food.

I pulled the ingredients out of the fridge and cupboard… eggs, sugar, milk, gluten free flour, butter, baking powder and some vanilla sugar do add that little bit extra flavour. You both love cracking eggs so that is always a favourite job and with pancakes, especially the gluten free one a lot of eggs helps with the ability to bind the mixture. Molly does the mixing and Grace add the ingredients. It is a joy watching you both work so nice together.

Then it is time to cook them, and we need to be careful with the hot pan but after your weekly pancake day at Mormor’s house you have both become experts.

But I do think a favourite for you both is the eating and you did well and made sure that every pancake made a plate but in the end your eyes were bigger then your bellies.

When I was younger and pictured myself as a mum, I pictured myself dancing and having fun doing crafts, baking and cooking with my children. Reality however leaves very little room for this as we are busy with work, gymnastics, friends and the general household chores. On Friday I received a last minute phone call from mum with a 5 day old baby looking for photos. I had decided to dedicate this weekend to my family and therefore said sorry, I am fully booked and can’t manage. Grace informed me that I was being rude turning a potential customer away because she wouldn’t have me to take photos of her baby. It was a lovely thing for you to say and as always so considerate towards others, but had I said yes I would not have been able to spend Sunday morning with you. Finding the right balance is hard and sometimes you have to let someone down, be selfish and think what is right for me and my family. I might not be the perfect mum that I wish to be, but I have just had the perfect Sunday morning with my girls. I may not do this as often as I would have wished for but maybe this just makes it that little bit more special when it does happen. You are both very special and spending time together is precious. Don’t forget to spend time with your loved ones.
Love mummy

A few months ago I created a blog for my friend Donna as I think she has an amazing story to tell and she is an inspiration to me. There are some gorgeous images of her daughter Daisy in this months letter called My girl. Pop over to her blog I dream of Daisy to read the letter.
